Matthew Lopez

Matthew (Matt) has handled a wide variety of personal injury and wrongful death cases, ranging from product liability litigation involving pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices, to other science-focused cases, including medical negligence, birth injury, elder abuse, and toxic chemical exposure.  Mr. Lopez is experienced in successfully handling complex civil cases, by way of pre-trial settlement as well as jury verdict.  Mr. Lopez also has experience prosecuting criminal matters, having previously worked for the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

Prior to joining Rueb Stoller Daniel, Mr. Lopez spent over a decade working for another nationally-recognized mass tort law firm, Lopez McHugh LLP, where he played an integral role in the firm’s pharmaceutical and medical device mass tort practice.  Throughout his career, Matt has fought and helped achieve recoveries on behalf of hundreds of patients who have been injured by defective drugs and medical devices.  Since 2017, Mr. Lopez has served as Co-Lead and Co-Liaison Counsel on behalf of thousands of plaintiffs in a California state court coordination in Oakland, California, involving Cordis IVC (inferior vena cava) Filters (JCCP No. 4977).

In 2003, Matt graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and a minor degree in Biological Sciences.  In 2008, he moved back to California where he earned his Juris Doctorate from Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law.

Mr. Lopez has been listed by Thomas Reuters’ Super Lawyers publication as a Southern California Super Lawyers “Rising Star” and by Best Lawyers in America for mass tort litigation.  He is a member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC).  

Matt is admitted to practice before all the courts of the State of California, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
