Rueb Stoller Daniel is looking into potential cases of individuals being diagnosed with cancer because of the heavy use of Roundup. Our relentless class action lawyers are working on behalf of clients who were diagnosed with B-Cell or T-Cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Subtypes of the disease include hairy cell leukemia, mantle cell lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, lymphocytic leukemia, and follicular lymphoma.
The manufacturers of Roundup, Monsanto, have already lost lawsuits of this nature. And, they could have to deal with thousands more around the country. The plaintiffs have been arguing that the company neglected to warn users that they were at increased risk for cancer. This all started after studies showed that a key component of Roundup – glyphosate – was potentially a carcinogen.
Information We Have Surrounding the Monsanto Roundup Lawsuits
It is alleged that Monsanto knew for more than 30 years that there was a link between Roundup use and cancer. However, it opted not to let the public know. Instead, the company said the weed killer was as safe as table salt. It claimed that with proper use, Roundup was non-toxic to both people and pets.
However, documents filed in court argue that Monsanto went to great lengths to keep the truth from the public. It continued to convince government agencies, farmers, and the public that its product was safe. The company hit out at studies that showed the danger of the product and spread misinformation instead. The documents also accuse Monsanto, which is now owned by Bayer, of conspiring with the EPA to hide the connection.
What Side Effects and Injuries Do Roundup Cause?
there are so many illnesses connected to RoundUp, but Cancer is the deadliest. Cancer is the most serious side effect of prolonged exposure to Roundup. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and leukemia are known to be the most common. Some 70,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma annually. In 90 percent of the cases, the patients have B-Cell lymphoma while around ten percent have T-Cell lymphoma.
Symptoms include loss of appetite, swollen lymph nodes, stomach and chest pain, fever, and night sweats. If you used Roundup frequently and you’ve experienced these symptoms, see a doctor as soon as possible.
Landscapers, farmworkers, and nursery and garden center employees are most at risk. They can inhale the herbicide when mixing, spraying or cleaning up. Roundup can also harm people who eat or drink contaminated food or water.
What Compensation Can a Plaintiff Recover in a Roundup Lawsuit?
Attorneys and potential victims are taking this situation seriously. By the end of December 2018, more than 650 lawsuits were pending against Monsanto in US criminal courts. They were brought together before Judge Vince Chhabria in the Northern District of California.

What Have Been the Settlement Amounts in Roundup Cases so Far?
So far, Monsanto has lost three Roundup cases in court and the settlement amounts have been substantial. The largest settlement went to an elderly couple who developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma after using Roundup for more than thirty years.
They were awarded $2.055 billion in damages inclusive of $2 billion in punitive damages and in excess of $55 million in compensatory damages. One of the couple’s lawyers, Brent Wisner, said the verdict was a clear indication that Monsanto had to change its behavior.
Bayer pledged to appeal the verdict. It argued that the plaintiffs relied on a WHO report which differed from all other studies on Roundup. The company countered the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer 2015 report by pointing to a US Environmental Protection Agency statement. That statement sought to make it clear that glyphosate did not cause cancer.
The second-largest award came in the first trial in which a school groundskeeper was the plaintiff. His lawyer was successful in arguing that his cancer was caused by Roundup and Ranger Pro (another Monsanto herbicide). He received $289 million in damages.
Meanwhile, the other case involved Edwin Hardeman, a 70-year-old who the court awarded $80 million in damages. He used Roundup for many years, and it was found that the herbicide was a significant factor in his diagnosis. Bayer also signaled its intention to appeal this verdict and maintained that the outcome would not impact future cases. However, Hardeman’s attorney said the outcome could affect the verdict in other lawsuits.
